Diesel launched Protokid in 2001 to promote their new kids clothing line in a playful virtual world and casual game site. The experience was centered around advancing your Protokid through mini-games based on becoming a rockstar. Players could cut a demo tape through a Guitar Hero/Rockband challenge in the first game then progress to a game involving getting signed then on to going on tour and building a fan base. In addition to playing mini-games users could create a personal profile including an avatar that could be dressed in the latest Diesel clothing.

Although game concepts and art were initially created by Bart Yeary at Resonant Games, specialized teams were also identified and introduced to Diesel to handle sound design, animation/art and engineering. Once the project was up and running additional game designs and artwork were created by Bloc Media in London.
